Apple Sparks Corporate Welfare Controversy

As much as I like Apple products, the $1 billion deal that Nevada gave to them makes little sense.  This was covered quite well on ZDNet at the end of June, and I especially liked the following two comments that were posted bemoaning the status quo in the Corporate Welfare system, and a link to Harvard that explains how these tax breaks are really a zero-sum game in which we all lose:

It irritates me in the same why that corporations complain about paying taxes for the commonweal, but they’ll pay to get their name on stupid stuff like highway toll booths, and rest stops; like they’re doing us a favor by sponsoring things that could be paid for if they would just pay their freaking income taxes…
