Defending the "sanctity" of marriage

• Oklahoma State Representative Mike O’Neal (author of that state’s Defense of Marriage Act) – just charged with felony charges of sexual battery
• Former Senator Bob Dole divorced the mother of his child, a woman who nursed him through a long recovery from war wounds.
• Newt "Family Values" Gingrich divorced his wife as she lay dying of cancer.  (Classy, huh?)
• Talk show host Rush Limbaugh and his (current) wife Marta have 6 marriages and 4 divorces between them.  (Boy howdy, folks — these two really DO love marriage!)
• Rep. Bob Barr of Georgia, not yet 50 years old, has been married three times.  One of his wives has written of how Barr forced her to have an abortion.  Barr (are you ready for this?) had the audacity to author and push the "Defense of Marriage Act."  Barr’s second divorce involved a trial in which Barr lied about his long-term adulterous relationship with a woman named Jerri Dobbin, the woman Barr destroyed his second marriage for and eventually married as his third wife.  Barr’s initial answers indicate that he denied the relationship under oath – and because even Jerri has admitted that the adulterous affair took place, (Gee, that’s felony perjury — just like Bill Clinton!)  In 1992, Barr was seen licking whipped cream off the chests of two women in bustiers at a benefit for the Leukemia Society.  (Ah, traditionalist legislators defending us all!)  The current joke making the rounds on Capitol Hill is "Gee, Bob Barr, just which marriage are you defending?"
• Ronald Reagan divorced the mother of two of his children to marry Nancy Davis Reagan, a woman who bore him a daughter only (!) 7 months after the wedding.
• Senator John Warner of Virginia – divorced (once married to Liz Taylor — that kinda says it all, huh?)
• Dick Armey, former House Majority Leader – divorced
• Senator Phil Gramm of Texas – divorced
• Governor John Engler of Michigan – divorced
• Former Governor Pete Wilson of California – divorced
• Conservative columnist George Will – divorced
• Senator Lauch Faircloth – divorced
• Senator Alfonse "Altar Boy" D’Amato of New York – divorced
• Governor George Allen of Virginia – divorced
• Henry Kissinger – divorced
• Representative Helen Chenoweth of Idaho – divorced
• Senator John McCain of Arizonia – divorced
• Representative John Kasich of Ohio – divorced
• Representative Susan Molinari of New York – Republican National Convention Keynote Speaker – divorced

Don’t let gay folks "destroy" the institution of marriage, ya know?  Looks like the Religious Right has beat them to the punch!
