Healthcare

What really astounds me about all the commotion about the healthcare debate is the amount of agitation in people who are the first to get screwed by their health insurance provider.

There was a great piece on Planet Money Podcast talking about how this doctor could browbeat the hospital into giving him a commuting arrangement by helicopter ride because he brings them patients, he doesn’t care that that costs patients money because it doesn’t cost him anything.  Everybody thinks that the other guy is paying, when, if they tried to control costs themselves, we’d all be in a better place.

Nobody except Obama seems to remember that there is a public good, and that we all have to put in something in order to take something out.

We have the most expensive health care system on the planet and the worst care.

Wake up!

  1. I have to laugh when people say “the reform plans will lead to rationing, or determining which medical procedures a patient can have” don’t you understand that the insurance companies already do that? They aren’t doctors, and they don’t have your best interests at heart… they are only interested in your wallet and will cancel your coverage when you get *really* sick or want a procedure that isn’t on their list – no matter how many doctors say you need it. Wake up kids.
