Letter to the Minnepolis Star-Tribune

Thank you for running Governor Dayton’s editorial.  The Governor made many good points, however he missed the most important point; that passage of the amendment would constitute a poll tax on the Elderly and other.  Poll taxes have been repeatedly rejected by the Supreme court as unconstitutional on the basis that it violates the Equal Protection Clause of the 14th Amendment to the United States Constitution.  Why does the Legislature think we can’t see that just as the Jim Crow laws were passed in the south to prevent blacks from voting after the Civil War that they are trying to pass new Jim Crow laws against the elderly and others?
