The Goatalo/Buffagoat of Alamance County, North Carolina

Buffalo?  Goat?

As we were driving country roads west of Chapel Hill, NC, we made our way to Saxapahaw (pronounced Saxapaw).

It was late and.  Although we were on the Bethlehem Chapel — Saxapahaw Highway, it was little more a country road.  We passed a corn field, a dairy farm and; just before the place that sells rabbits, it caught my eye.  I was going too fast to stop and the road was too narrow for a U-turn.

The little fenced pasture had a gathering of goats watching me looking at them as I sped by.  But, wait, standing in the back of the gathering it looked up and winked! (I think it winked)

What the devil was it?  It looked like a buffalo, but the size of a goat!  I asked my wife, she had missed it.  She thought I was too tired to drive.

We went to the open house at Haw Village.

But I couldn’t get it out of my mind.

Later we drove back to see more houses; no goats.

I went back myself, no goats.

Today Sam and I went slowly up the Old Greensborough Highway, Left onto the Bethlehem Chapel — Saxapahaw Highway slowed before the Rabbits sing and, there were goat!

And, way back under the tree was the BuffaGoat/Goatalo.

I stopped.  I spoke kindly to the goats, they came near, but not the BuffaGoat/Goatalo.

He was shy, I spoke more kindly.  He stepped out of the shadows.  I now have a picture of the elusive BuffaGoat/Goatalo of Alamance County.

The size of a goat, the characteristics of a buffalo and I have pictures to prove it.
