Unprecedented Summit

I was listening to the News Briefs on the local Boston all-news station when the reporter read a story about an unprecedented summit between the Prime Ministers of two countries who are encaged in heated territorial dispute.

The reporter stated it was unprecedented because of the longstanding acrimonious relationship between the two leaders.

Whoa! Acrimonious is not a word that you casually slip into a News Brief.

To your brain, this word is like hitting a speed bump.  For a nanosecond your brain stops, looks at the word, reaches into the archives and retrieves meaning.  During this time Mr.  Newsman has babbled on and you have missed the whole point of the News Brief (therefore defeating the whole purpose of the "brief" part.)

Consequently, I don’t know which 2 Prime Ministers or what two countries are arguing over which border (there are so many, you know)

I mean I have a reasonable vocabulary but my brain paused and took notice.

Acrimony:
Ac (ach): derived from the 1950’s comic bookm word, aach (ack/uch/yuck/yikes) signifying surprise or displeasure.  As in, "Aach, Unca Donald; Huey, Dewey, and Louie1 never grew up!"
And
Crimony: relating to things nuptial and money (ie: matrimony/palimony/alimony)  As in, "Jeesum Crimony, you want how much of my income?"

So, the only thing I could conclude is that at one time these two Premier Dudes were married to each other and are still pissed off about the financial settlement.

This is not a healthy emotional environment in which to settle a border dispute.  I think we should refer this to Dr.  Phil and bypass the UN entirely.

1Donald’s nephews are Huey, Dewey, and Louie.  They made their debut in the Donald Duck Sunday comic page on October 17, 1937, and first appeared on film in "Donald’s Nephews" in 1938.  Huey wears red, Dewey wears blue, and Louie wears green.  Their mother was Donald’s sister, Dumbella Duck.
