Field terms

  • Tree Limbs – An object that cause physical pain by slapping, scratching, poking, prodding, raking and gouging ones face.
  • Brush – Same description as tree limbs along with stabbing and spearing occurring more to the lower one half of the body. Unless you are of short statue then it is full body contact.
  • Slash – Downed logs and limbs that cause one to trip stumble and fall at a accelerated speed to which the above become more painful.
  • Rocks – Hard objects lying on the ground that cause one to stop suddenly after one has trip and stumbled causing heighten pain to the shins and knees.
  • Snowshoes- An item warn on your feet to make sure all the above occurs in the present of others. In which after ones eyelashes freeze shut.  This event and the humiliation from others laughter is the sole reason many field foresters work alone.
  • Hornets – The reason you did not want to be the back guy in a line running operation during a dry summer.  But quite humors for the compass man pulling the chain.
  • Logging – The tool that is used most often to seek revenge on all the above!!!

What a great job this has been.  For every one time that I was dissatisfy as to what I was doing their were ten others that made me grateful for all the days in the field.

This being my last day I had to tape my mouth shut, not for fear of what I might say but I am grinning so bad the corners of my mouth may touch and the top of my head will fall off.

Later to all keep on smiling. MW
